Copy content from another instructor's courseI have a new course that I’ve never taught before that I want to set up with “borrowed” content from another instructor.  I’ve checked with the other instructor, and they’ve agreed to let me use their cool content, and I will modify their course to fit my teaching style.

Explanations for each of the choices above:

Set up a blank course

Don’t pick this one.  This will literally set up a totally empty course.  You’re welcome to do this, but it’s just a lot of extra work that isn’t necessary.  You will even have to set up the three required folders on your homepage: Syllabus and Schedule, Course Content, and Getting Started..

Copy content from another course

This will be your most common choice.  It will show you a list of all your current and past classes that are still available.  It will copy content from the class you choose into the class you’re setting up.  Simply pick the class you want to import. Detailed instructions.

Assign a template to this course:

Simply choose the template you’d like to use from the list.  If you’re teaching a traditional classroom course, choose that one.  Hybrids, choose hybrid, etc.  Simple! This one sets up an empty course complete with the buttons you’ll need and the three folders on the homepage for you to start adding your cool content to.

Import content from file

Though a little more complex, our technologically inclined CCA instructors are already using this function.  At the end or beginning of a semester, you can create a backup copy of your course with all of its cool content.  You can save this on your USB jump drive or even email them to yourself in some cases.  This option allows you to restore this backup of a previous class into a new one.  You can always play with it and call the IT staff if you get stuck.  What’s the worst that could happen?  You melt down all the community colleges in Colorado.  Just kidding.
