Student / Faculty Training

Faculty teaching an online, hybrid, or classroom-based course with a web component must attend and complete Desire2Learn Training. The training includes both face-to-face and online elements. This year, a completely online option will be available.

Effective Fall 2007, the Community College of Aurora requires classroom-based instructors to use basic conveniences of our online Learning Management System (LMS): syllabi and course handouts, and use the grade book and email features.  THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL  Our current LMS, Blackboard, will be phased out in Spring and replaced with Desire2Learn.

In addition, Online, Hybrid, and Open-entry or self-paced courses must utilize online discussions, exams (quizzes), and electronic assignment drop boxes.

Why teach online?  Why have an online presence in your classroom?  While quality is our goal here, the benefits of online supplements is becoming more apparent with mounting evidential support.  You might be interested in this New York Times article.  Your students will view you as competent in your discipline if you are comfortable with technology.
